  1. Challenge to the group: I'm working on an article for my blog on Grimbeorn and the Beornings NOT in their LL (so, allied – because if you were to run them pure, why wouldn't you just run the Legion?). I put it to you guys: what faction(s) do you think would be good to ally them with? And do you think losing the army bonus for basically everyone change the way certain armies play? To prime the discussion, I've got an army list to review – 700pts of allied Fiefdoms:

    Grimbeorn [ARMY LEADER]

    4 Beornings

    3 Beornings with great bows

CONVENIENT ALLY: Forlong the Fat on horse

    4 Axemen of Lossarnach

    2 Blackroot Vale Archers

5 Blackroot Vale Archers with spears

CONVENIENT ALLY: Captain of Dol Amroth on armored horse with lance

1 Knight of Dol Amroth on armored horse with lance

    4 Clansmen of Lamedon

    4 Axemen of Lossarnach

    30 models, 3 great bows hitting on a 4+ AND 7 bows hitting on a 3+, 4 D6+ models, 3 cavalry + 1 bear, 8 Might points

Idea is that Forlong's Axemen support the melee Beorings (or stand in front of them), then run the Blackroot Vale Archers near the Beorning archers (supporting or standing in front of them) with Grimbeorn leading the melee attack and Forlong calling those devastating Heroic Shoots. Oh, and bringing the war horn is good too. The Captain is there for March with the KoDA for added speed (though I'm not convinced he should be there – maybe get an extra Beorning for the same price) and some extra Clansmen/Axemen to help spread the damage. I avoided Men-at-Arms because Imrahil isn't in the list, but curious if you think they'd be better than the Axemen. Cheers guys – thanks for a great podcast (as always)!

  2. Great episode, as ever. 🙂

On the subject of the Good/Evil ratio among the armies at Ardacon, I thought that all teams are required to take an equal number of Good and Evil armies (or as close as possible, if the team has an odd number of the players). Is that not the case? I thought that would guarantee an almost 50/50 ratio.

  3. Hi guys, thanks for the great video. As a UK player it's good to hear more about the meta here as I'm going to my first tournament in a few weeks. It's 600pts, I'm taking a Harad/Mordor list (would go pure Harad but 600 is a bad points level for them if you want Suladan and the Betrayer), and was hoping you could give it a bit of critique and suggest any improvements:

    Suladan with Armoured Horse (115)
-9 Harad Warriors with Bow and Spear (72)
-3 Abrakhan Guard or Watchers of Karna with Twin Blades (haven't made up my mind yet) (27)
    -6 Serpent Riders (78)

Mouth of Sauron with Armoured Horse (85)
    -10 Black Numenoreans (90)
-2 Morannons with Shield and Axe (16)
-3 Morannons with Shield and Spear (27)

    Shelob (90)

    TOTAL: 36 Models, 5 Might, 9 Bow, 8 Mounted

Alternatively was thinking about swapping Shelob and the Mouth for a Witch King with Armoured Horse, Crown and 3/17/3 for the better spells and Harbinger, as well as the extra point of Might. What are your thoughts?

  4. Challenge to the podcast: What is a Counter to the Assault on Lothlorien?

As this topic seems to be already on Matts mind at least and was a theme last episode. Which armies work well against AoL and remain competitive in general?

For Inspiration I wrote down two AoL lists for 600 and 800 Points, but feel free to look into the question beyond that.

    3x Goblin Prowler

    4x Goblin with Shield

5x Goblin with bow and spear

  5. Really great episode and Glad to hear James is back talking about the hobby! but I think you missed one key point which was definitely that Ardacon is a team championship as well. that means that not all lists are necessarily represented, because you’re only allowed one of each hero per team. If that weren’t the case maybe you would see more witch kings, suladans, and Dalamyrs. Also could explain the prevalence of assault on helms deep which I believe there were no restrictions on.

  6. Thanks for the great content! I'm preparing for my first tournament and I have a list I'd love for you to review with your critiques to help make it better. The only stipulation is that I want to include Gwaihir as my wife painted it up for me.

    800 points

    Warband 1:
    Durin- Leader
    14 Hearthguard
1 warrior with banner and shield
    2 warriors with shield

    Warband 2:
    Haldir w/ armor and bow
6 Galadhrim Warriors with spear and shield
2 Galadhrim Warriors with spear and bow
    2 Galadhrim Warriors with bow
4 Guard of the Galadhrim Court
1 Woodelf Warrior with bow and wood elf spear

    Warband 3:
    Gwahir

    Model count=35

I also have a 36 model version using wood elves instead of warriors to boost the numbers but I think the higher defense is worth sacrificing the greater numbers. Thoughts?
