Creating Descriptor File Doesn’t Work

I have been following a few tutorials on how to create a descriptor file when one is missing or corrupted. This one in particular

I create the file to match the -flat file size, etc., but adding the vmdk as an existing disk never works(doesn’t show in the browser as a VMDK). Something in the two files doesn’t line up to make this work properly.

  1. Have you tried adding a new disk to a VM, with the appropriate size and type (SATA or SCSI), and then just editing the descriptor to point at the flat file? The .vmdk is just geometry and type info and a pointer to the flat file.
