Different CPU Speeds, but same family?

We are building out a vSAN cluster and would like to have 2 nodes with very high core counts, but lower clock speeds. For the other two nodes, we’d like to have lower core counts, but higher clock speeds. Both would be in the same AMD Epyc Rome 2 family, just different SKUs.

That shouldn’t cause any issues with vMotion, correct?

  1. I’d be interested to hear your use case for this – can you elaborate? While it shouldn’t cause any issues with vMotion, DRS etc it’s always been good practise that all hosts within a cluster should run the same CPU speed, as DRS moving workloads could cause VMs to perform differently on different hosts.
