Need help connecting my Virtual Machine to the internet

Hi, before anything I would like to say that I’m pretty new to computing in general so I’m sorry if I’m being sloppy or something.

I recently downloaded VMWare Workstation 15 in order to run a virtual machine with Linux. For some reason I dont understand, I cannot access to the internet inside the virtual machine; I don’t know if this is the problem but while checking the network adapter settings of the VM, I noticed that in the device status tab, the “connected” box cannot be checked nor unchecked.

Is there anything I can do? The Host is Windows 10 and the guest is Ubuntu

  1. Haha! I had this exact problem a few months ago. Let me see if I can find my post…

Your VM, specifically if it’s a turnkey machine, may be missing like an Ethernet device ‘file’. I forget what is called atm. But I had to add it to my teradata image to get out.

[Here is the post,](https://www.reddit.com/r/openSUSE/comments/fg77lh/trying_to_get_a_turnkey_vm_to_a_healthy_state/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=iossmf) but there’s not a ton of info there. What you are looking for is a file called ‘resolvr.conf’. My image was completely missing it, so I had to find generic values online. Once that was in place I was able to get internet inside the machine.

Reach out if you still have issues! I like trouble shooting VMs – well, at least during COVID.
