Nested ESXi lab, vMotion traffic goes through 2 vmnics although vMotion portgroup is configured to use only one vmnic. ???

Hello Reddit,

I’ve set up a nested ESXi 6.7 + vCenter lab at home.

Initially, the vMotion portgroup was configured to use 2 active uplinks but I decided to experiment with just one uplink. However when looking at the data receive rate/data transmit rate network graph for the hosts, I still can see traffic going through the 2 vmnic when vMotioning VMs across hosts.

I’m pretty sure my previous non-nested ESXi lab wasn’t showing this weirdness.

Is it a specificity of nested ESXi ?

(Promiscuous mode & Forged transmits are enabled on the physical ESXi host virtual switch).
