Question about vlan traffic from physical switch to vm on esxi 6.7

I have a vm that has a physical interface that is connected to a physical switch. I created a vswitch with the physical adaptor. Created a port group with this vswitch and then added it as a second interface to a linux vm. In the linux vm the interface is labeled with the vlan ID. On the physical switch the port is tagged with the vlan ID. My question is on the port group do I have to enter the vlan ID? Or can I leave it blank? I will not be using the connection from the physical switch to the vm for any other vlans.

Hope this makes sense.

  1. You will need to set it on the vswitch, and that will limit you to one vlan. the Vm do not have to have a vlan at all.
