Seemingly fresh ESXi install but somehow a past install persisted?

I can’t really explain this but I had ESXi installed on a single 32 GB SD Card. I swapped it for 2 redundant 8 GB cards and did a ‘fresh’ install. However the host had the server name from before somehow and also when I went to shut down I got a pink screen about persistent log storage referencing a path from a prior install.

The 8 GB cards were brand new, never used. Is this normal or have I just lost it?

  1. For hostname, I think it pulls it from somewhere because ESXi on my server I just switched from Hyper-V pulled its host name. Some other Linux distros do this too.
