I spent a miserable week trying to install vCenter on my whitebox esxi host. It always failed in different ways. I got a new SSD and it solved the issue. I didn’t suspect this initially as the box had 2 SATA SSDs already and i alternated installs between them and so ruled the disks out as the problem. But it seems both were a bit off. I didn’t find any easy evidence in that week that something was amiss on either. Am i missing something simple in detecting this? I dont really want silent corruption occurring again. But, oddly, existing VMs were fine (perhaps because new writes were on the fringe of bad sectors?).
