Unable to Open Remote Console ESXi 6.5 / vSphere 6.0

Quick backstory:

I received a PowerEdge R610 and reinstalled ESXi 6.5 on it. It previously had 6.0 from an old client of ours, but I wiped the data stores and went with a fresh install. Everything is up and running. I have it pulling an IP address, iDrac6 is up, and I’m able to start creating VMs. I installed vSphere Client 6.0 to manage all this over using the web version.

Now for the problem:

When I go to open a remote console for a freshly made VM, I receive the following error message: “Unable to connect to the MKS: Could not connect to pipe .pipevmware-authdpipe w”

I have searched for roughly 4 hours now, reviewing several articles covering DNS issues, adjusting the hosts file and adding in the DNs entries, re-adding the VM, rebooting both the ESXi environment and the computer I’m using, checked firewall settings, port allowances, and so much more…

I have confirmed that I am able to access the remote console from the web portal without any issues.

The VM I’m testing is fresh. Has no OS on it yet and without the remote console, it’s proving very difficult to get on on there… even through the web console.

If anyone has experienced this issue and resolved it or has any points in the right direction, I would greatly appreciate it.

  1. Why don’t you want to use the web client? I found the 6.5 web client to be quite usable as a daily driver. With 6.5 and newer, some features are only in web, and it’s the way forward, so this might be a good time to start finding your way through it.
