Vmotion from AWS to on Prem?

Can this be done? I know I can just copy the vmdk files back to my DC and then import the VMs offline, but is there and automated method of getting a VM currently on AWS and migrated it to a new onsite cluster?

  1. Yes,

    ## VMware vSphere vMotion Between On-Premises and VMware Cloud on AWS

    Date Updated: October 17, 2019

Delivers live migration (VMware vSphere vMotion) of workloads between on-premises and VMware Cloud on AWS. This will require a customer to have vSphere 6.0U3 or above version on-premises, AWS Direct Connect (Private VIF) and NSX L2VPN. Customers can perform vMotion between on-premises and VMware Cloud on AWS using UI (which requires vCenter Hybrid Linked Mode to be connected) or using API and PowerCLI 2

  2. Informational FYI: If you need something a bit more immediate, you can already move VMs between cloud and on-premise with Zerto. I just moved a half million a year spend (*dozens of VMs*) from Azure to on-premise in about 3 hours total beginning to end. Obviously this has a price tag attached to it, but not sure what your timeline is, how many VMs, or your ability for downtime. (*They also sell migration only licenses specifically for this purpose.*)
