vmware workstation does not like virtual machines stored on NAS

I’ve had it with these constant errors. I have 20+ VMs and I need to either make a snapshot of one or load another, etc. and all I get is constant bs issues.

I’m trying to create a snapshot of a Windows 10 machine that’s working fine and is a new install. I’m doing this on a powered off machine and when I power it on I get the the following error only when adding a description (name says, “Snapshot 1), “The request could not be performed because of an I/O device error, cannot open disk yaddy yaddy ya”. Gives location of networked NAS, \\172.16.0.X. Module ‘Disk’ power on failed. Failed to start the virtual machine.

It won’t start and I have to go back and delete the snapshot then it’ll start. If I try to take a snapshot while it’s on and sitting idle in windows it fails with the same error.

The NAS is fine, no drive failures.
