VMworld 2020

Hi guys,

I’ve never attended one of these before, but our reseller reached out informing us this year it was free and all remote. I was just curious to hear your thoughts if you’ve been to one in the past.

Is this worthwhile?

  1. I’ve attended one, two years ago in Barcelona.
I thought it was good fun (both during and after work) and interesting. But I work as a consultant, so being “well informed” is mandatory and something I actually enjoy doing so.

What do you expect to get out of it? Answering that question might help out answering yours. 😉

  2. I work for VMware now, but I have been going to VMworld for the past 14 years, yes it is worth it. I attend many sessions, and I present them as well, and I get a lot out of it. The great thing this year of course is that it is free and you can watch sessions on-demand, so you can easily pick what you want to see and bail out if it isn’t what you expected.

  3. I’ve been going for the past 4 or 5 years I think. I enjoy it and since I’m a consultant I feel it’s my job to know where things are heading.
The sessions are hit and miss. A lot of marketing / sales related stuff but there are always a few great ones.
I would definitely recommend checking it out. If vmware is a big part of your job then it’s definitely worth your time.

In particular I enjoy the solutions exchange where you get to talk to all kinds of third party vendors which I find very valuable. Unfortunately with things being online only I doubt that will be available this year.

  4. I’ve never been to a vmworld before but have been to vfourms. If you’re not in a MSP you can still get a lot of value from these and if you know what your company has in the pipeline can help you get ideas around possible solutions (or even just knowing what to compare).

Its free this year, make the most of it I say.
