vSphere 7: Issues when upgrading a pfSense VM to virtual hardware version 17

Was anyone able to upgrade a pfSense (version 2.4.5) VM successfully to
hardware version 17? Everytime I try the VM gets a snapshot, shuts down but does not start again automatically like all other Linux related VMs. After manually restarting the VM stays on old hardware version 15. It’s the only VM not upgrading.
Open-vm-tools are installed.

  1. Solved. I did shutdown the VM manually, then did the virtual hardware version upgrade of the VM via the ESXi web client instead of vCenter. This worked.

I have to mention that I had to click on “Check Status” on the “Updates” tab of the VM because otherwise the old hardware version was still shown up. Now it is showing hardware version 17.
