🔍 The Quest to Algorithmic Fairness: Ethical, Legal and Technical Solutions
Meet Yasaman Yousefi, a PhD candidate in Law, Science and Technology at UNIBO, and a joint PhD candidate in Computer Science at the University of Luxembourg.

In the ever-growing digital era and the increasing reliance on Artificial Intelligence in decisions-making instances, Yasaman’s PhD research explores the legal and ethical implications of achieving fairness in AI systems.

Her work tackles questions about AI fairness, discrimination prevention, and legal protections in the face of Algorithmic discrimination. Her research aims to provide interpretative guidance on the upcoming European AI Act (2024/1689) and develop a fairness assessment checklist based on this regulation and ethical AI principles.
During her PhD, Yasaman has won several grants, including the prize for The First University of St. Gallen Grand Challenge: The EU AI ACT, the Institute of Advanced Studies (ISA) Doctoral Prize for Interdisciplinary Research, and the Marco Polo Scholarship.
