  1. My confidence in his intelligence is also waning. Technical intelligence sure, but business, I’m not convinced. They are ahead because they’re a household name so they’re using that to ignore products to make headlines about the future. Meanwhile Claude works better in every way and I have no desire for anything else from them right now BECAUSE THEY NEVER PROMISED IT.

Agreed though I <3 perplexity I need all three in a group thread TBH

  2. Every post from OpenAI gives me less respect for them. They’re sprinting naked and ignored even the simplest of UI/UX 4o promises. And logical next steps for UI like there is zero reason they did whip out something like artifacts — they could have called it anything and the UI setup potential is endless. They don’t care. God complex.

  3. Perplexity is my go to for just about any info. I use it 10x per day on a light day. I use Claude for programming and ChatGPT as a backup to Claude. (usage limits are a bit too tight on Claude)

  4. If AI were a hungry fire ravaging all the books and paperwork humanity wrote through history, knew every 13 year olds favourite 4chan meme, every piece of poetry, song lyric, screenplay , had read patent information, medical textbooks and all the fan fiction and canon of every movie, we would be where we are right now.

That is a strange and disturbing notion.

If it were a database, and this was just text it had collected, it would only be a few thousand terrabytes i imagine. So Sam Altman's lofty goal of raising 7 trillion dollars to build Chat GPT's infrastructure is likely not because of the narrative implying it needs all that compute for weights and processing the computations needed to follow its decision tree to answer millions of questions at a time. No, and this may not be a secret, but what's setting in for me, is that it will watch the entire internet, all the video feeds on social media and every other media imaginable. Have you ever opened java when playing a video? There is a ton of coding to send that picture, and with the promise that chat GPT 5 will be an order of magnitude better than what the public has now is a chilling realization when compared with what social media has done to democracy since 2016 when social media began to take over as our main source of media. Between now and 2030 we are at a precipice where if we are dumb and obedient again, we will 100% be signing up for not just a forced narrative, but an invented one. Noah Harari says we will need to look to institutions in order to watermark real videos as opposed to AI. He's involved with the World Economic Forum, you know the one with the white paper explaining how we will own nothing and be happy.

I wonder how much as a talented ceo type, that Sam Altman believes in this vision of the future. I have my suspicions that he's navigated himself to the top tech company in the top tech industry without any real conviction behind what he and his company have released on society? Or I wonder if he is just a scientist doing science and devil the consequences. A gain of function advocate, just chasing down the next bleeding edge applications?

Does he believe in a future when nobody will know if I spent 45 minutes composing my thoughts in an effort to convey to another human my worries about our shared predicament? Or would he have an AI spit out some gluck i printed asking it for a catchy headline that makes me sound interesting on Faceplant? How long will you take my word for it?

I hope for all of our sakes that AI will be a benevolent overlord as promised but I think widespread paranoia is what it's going to be selling as we witness our world get narrower when examining truth, and a far wider chasm filled with illusions engulfing the landscape?

  5. Interesting story, the autonomous agents is definitely where the future is going. Imagine having our government run by Open Source vetted agents that are representing the people. No longer relying on the special interest and the corrupt to fuck up things. Hopefully I get to see that in my life time.

  6. my opinion on vr ar headsets; what they should do, is concentrate on a good "screen" which would be the glasses, but have the bulk of the tech on a separate device like a 2nd mobile phone that you can put anywhere else. Even better would be a projection in front of your eyes. Integrating the bulk of the tech into the glasses is the wrong path imho.

  7. Matt, I had an idea recently.
    TLNs – Tiny Little Networks.
They are neural networks only trained on 1 specific task such as find buildings in an image.
It has no other roles but that.
Then, they are fast to load and unload ad hoc, and you only need ones specific to your needs for a particular project – perhaps only 3 or 4.

  8. Hmm, recently checking the MTEB benchmark, I realized that other companies such as google has been staring to push out new text embedding models while OpenAI is still stuck with text-embedding-small/large 3, makes me wonder if they will be improving these text embedding models anytime soon…

  9. I talked to Claude, CHATGPT, GEMINI 1.5 and Llama 3.1 and the best answers came from GEMINI but Llama actually wanted to help me interpret the dream I was talking about. I felt connected with Llama. Claude talked about science when that wasn't even important to me. I just wanted some input and Meta did the best job.
