Ive just built this model yesterday. It was a fun easy build and really is very solid and durable. For motor racing fans, its a must have
I don't mind the gaps between panels on lego technic sets. It's the 'technic look' and sets it apart from a miniature.
I don't usually sticker my Technic stuff, because I do enjoy making my own stuff, and stickers tend to reduce that. In this case, I feel like the stickers really added polish, the car would have been really plain without it. It's a massive kit, but surprisingly it's still smaller than the McLaren F1 car!
This set got me to fall back in love with Lego and i've literally been building EVERY SINGLE DAY ever since!
I know Technic isnt really in your usual content style, so its always nice when you do get around to a nice Technic set because we get to see you wowed by all the cool mechanical functions, and they do look and work a lot nicer than they did a couple years back. I appreciate that you didn't push too hard against the exposed red and blue pins. On Lego brick style sets, it always looks messy to have wrong colors exposed, but somehow on Technic sets it usually isnt too bad. It kinda adds to the tactile sense of fun. Its got steering, suspension, transmission, moving engine parts. It's not meant to be a display model, its meant to be toyed with and shown off as "look at this neat piece of engineering that i put together myself" so red and blue connectors only add the the finished product in this case
Wish they’d made Ferraris LMP2 car this year
Great review, just picked it up on Amazon prime day 😊
6:23 there are extra pieces if you want to have it fully connected with those little black pieces which i did myself
Amazing car. Ordered mine today. Greetings from Sunny Cape Town South Africa 🇿🇦
Just got back the 24hrs of Le Mans and had to buy this. Can’t wait to build it.
I’m getting one of these for my birthday!
(It’s the biggest Lego set I will ever build! My current biggest I’ve built is the ford f150 raptor)
I think the stickers felt confortable 'couse they are so big and they were easy to place.
I wish they’d done the 963 in technic and the Peugeot in speed champions.
This is a good looking set. Some Technic sets have wierd colors, but not this one. This one is good.
I love the part usage of a wheel-guard shaping piece used on top of the car to simulate the shape of the windshield.
I really like this set. It seems like Lego has finally been listening to criticism and making easily removable sections so that people can actually see the pistons working.
Unlike most of y'all I don't care that it was two sticker sheets if the stickers make the vehicle look accurate also going to be buying this as soon as my local Target puts it out for sale
It’s amazing how much function they can pack in
but why Peugeot? 🙁
I'm still in two minds with this Technic car.
Thanks for your comprehensive review! What's your opinion on how well this Lego model represents the real world Peugeot 9×8 Le Mans Hypercar, @JANG's LEGO Reviews?
The different scales in all these Technic cars is why I don’t bother collecting them. My OCD would drive me insane. As with all Technic though, it looks great……from a distance.
I'm just happy that most of the off-color pins are at least blue and not something super obvious, like red.
Very helpful tour and review. Pretty big set. In my local Lego store, this filled up the display cubicle end-to-end. I might get this when there is an offer. I will definitely NOT put on those stickers, OMG, 2 sheets, at least for now 😅 I could pretend this is some unnamed prototype. Sorry, Peugeot!
When I saw the first thumbnails of this (during the reveal), my first thought was: "Didn't we just have a new Batmobile?"
There should be more cars in this scale, this one is great
The prices should have been $175
This and the Ford GT set have really earned my respect and appreciation for being much less costly than the 1/8th scaled models but still well built up and well sized. Despite the fact that I originally wrote this off for being a lot more costly than the Ford GT, this is a lot bigger than I expected compared to the Ford GT and the suspension is far more interesting than usual; not sure I've seen a set that used a mono-shock suspension system before, and it's different on the front and back here.
It's a pretty expensive for sure and functionally basic, but a lot easier to bear than the 1/8th scaled sets and discounts are a thing (the same applies to the 1/8th ones too however). As long as you like what you see of course! And it has my attention now after this review! But waiting on a hefty discount naturally, as this is uncomfortably more costly than the Heavy Duty Tow Truck, which is probably the last large Technic set we'll get that's good value and has a ton of functions.
It definitely doesn't need a gearbox function, which I feel has kinda grown somewhat stale; it was impressive years ago in the Porsche 911 GT3 RS back in 2016 but not so much today. Although that said, I acknowledge that not everyone has bought the previous larger models so newcomers are still able to be wowed by it today if they buy one of the larger models for the very first time, like the Ferrari Daytona. I skipped the Bugatti and passing on the Ferrari, to take a break from that scale range and avoid repetition.
Stellar review as always jang, really like the look of this and such a improvement on that awful Ferrari for this scale.
I agree about the wide range of scales. I understand why they're covering such a wide range of scales (price point!) but it does affect display-ability
The marketing for this car is considerable, Peugot really bet the farm on winning something with this thing.
Seeing a Lego and Peugeot collab makes me hopeful for some Speed Champions hatchbacks, maybe a 207? Or 205 Rallye?
Thanks for a great detailed and impartial review, as always. It looks to be the best of the 1/10th collection so far. I'm not sure how I'll hang it on the wall as I normally do: Those open front wheel arches look bad and the rear deck lid will fall off I guess. Also, that price is painful to me
Happy 2nd birthday on Twitch
I am a car fanatic and love Lego and Technic builds. But I do agree that they need to decide on a set of scales and stick to them. All the $450 cars should be same scale (they are currently 1:8 which I hope they stay consistent with). All the $50 models seem to be roughly the same scale (although not quite). But there is way too much deviation in the middle size. The $100-$200 sets are essentially just random. Maybe 1:12 would be good. I think the middle range ($100-$200) is the sweatspot of detail for price, making them the sets with the most potential, and yet these stupid things are all over the map. I love that they did a Ford GT, but it's such a stupid size. It looks awkwardly small against cars like this one, but awkwardly big against the $50 cars.
I would have rather paid $200 for the FordGT to get it in this scale, and it would have had more detail and fewer gaps too.
Very nice model! A bit above my budget. Maybe get it with a decent discount! I remember JANG pointed out the shine/almost metallic effect in the preview video. I know its not as much on the actual model, but in the last part of the video I did notice it shines quite a lot! Way more then I expected, thats pretty sweet! Good in depth review as always!
Looks so strange without a windscreen, i'd try make something myself from a transparent sheet of plastic.
Thank you for your reviews J
!thanksjang
Great review, as always.
Regarding Technic in general, would someone please explain why Lego does not integrate windshield pieces into their Technic designs?
Happy 2 year anniversary! Love what you’ve been able to do with your content
This build looks so sleek!
