Is it the case that my options are to either A) buy bitcoin from official sources (e.g., a bitcoin ATM), in which case if bitcoin ever becomes illegal to own, there will be a record that I own it and I will have to surrender it, or B) find a stranger on the internet who is interested in selling bitcoin to me, meet them at a pub, watch them transfer bitcoin to me and then hand over $50,000 cash to them, in which case there is a good chance that I will be mugged or fooled? Are these the options, or am I missing something?

Now they are 0.08%, because the inflation-adjusted federal funds rate is negative right now (-6%).
So if the amount of your mortgage and other debt is greater than your dollar-denominated assets (such as cash and bank balances) then inflation actually benefits you.
This assumes your income is also being adjusted for inflation.
If you also hold crypto or shares or real estate then you benefit even more.

Bitcoin is an NPC coin since it disincentivizes trade with high fees. That's also a problem with fiat but not so much. So they criticize it while they really should be getting their act together and fixing the inefficiencies in their own system. Mining itself is an engineered inefficiency, like the useless money printer and only serves to inflate prices. They look into the abyss of their own reflection in bitcoin and they don't like what they see. Bitcoin doesn't care though and like honey badger just keeps hacking away at their systems from below.
