  1. There's mines that only hire their family members. There's hard workers, but if they're not family or friends, they don't get the job. So, to say there's a shortage is probably wrong. Maybe these mines need to see who they have in management that make these decisions.

  2. Maybe if you raise the pay significantly higher, and also reduce strictness in the hiring process, people will consider these jobs. You can’t tell me someone will work hard all day, mining and getting dirty for a chicken change, will a fellow pier is making bag on TikTok. People making videos on the internet should never be earning ridiculously more than these in demand jobs. That’s why young people don’t want this jobs anymore. I think the precedence should change

  3. The solution is pretty simple and will happen by itself. It will get pushed up against a wall where they need to get workers no matter what. Then like the pipeline gigs you’ll start seeing young men in their 20s getting offered 120/hr employment contracts for mining and you’ll have all the workers you need.

It’s not that people don’t want to do these hard jobs, it’s that they see no point when McDonald’s is paying people more to ring up customers than some career long miners and machine operators.

You show me a prevailing wage 6 month contract and I’ll head out to the mines tomorrow.

  4. There’s about 500,000,000 people who would love to come from China and India to work those mines.
And if you dropped “now hiring” leaflets all over North Korea you could empty that country.
Your choice is to bring in people who appreciate the opportunity to work or pay the people here enough to entice them to work.
    Your call.

  5. Look at all these unbased comments here. You think maybe the reason people don't want to work in mining cause it actually sucks? My kids better grow up to be better than this. No banging rocks together in the pit for them, go to college & get smart unlike their father.

Maybe they'll learn how to operate equipment remotely & someday they'll take your job. All this complaining about OSHA & MSHA, do you really believe the owners won't replace your ass with a robot who can't get hurt & file workman's comp?
