whilst i love the super power efficient mini pcs, if you want to play about with a sprawling monolithic setup which is relatively performant then they aren't the best imo.
in terms of my own justifications for homelab, what i've sold it to myself as, the pooling of multiple devices into a single one. how that manifests is through the inclusion of say a router (pfsense) a dedicated desktop vm (use looking glass + nvidia vgpu unlock) as well as your whole home lab on top.
sure its my dangerous having an all in one, because if it goes down / dies then you are pooped but outside of that, it works really well. it might be something like 200 or 250w all said and done but you've got so many different things built into one that i just accept it and move on
Size matters right? 😂 on a serious note though I fell into the same trap you did, influenced by what I saw now more focused on smaller foot prints and power efficiency
These live streams have quickly become my favourite type of content from you!
Hope you keep them coming!
I’m way more impressed by homelabs that are power and cost efficient than racks full of enterprise gear that runs at 10% capacity and 10x the electricity.
