I know all the unraid 6.12 hype is about ZFS, but I’m more hypes about the new share configuration.
While going through the patchnotes and setting this up, I got a bit confused at first, and ran into issues, that I managed to fix.
In this retake, I provide an unscripted side by side…

I wrote a little summary based on your video. Thank you for explaining it so well.

(from cache pool onto array… – Secondary Storage: Array
…when mover is run) – Mover Action: Cache > Array
Use cache pool: Prefer – Primary Storage: Cache
(from array to cache, unless… – Secondary Storage: Array
…full, but when empty move it) – Mover Action: Cache < Array
Use Cache pool: Only – Primary Storage: Cache

Thank you, im starting out with Unraid and your video has helped me a lot well done!!!! Many thanks
Thanks a lot.😘
Btw I noticed that when I named a drive cache, Unraid automatically updated my shares
Very well done demo! It even addressed my specific use-case in that I want to have docker appdata on the nVME cache but I built this server up before I had an nVME to use. Moving over to the nVME is one of the last exercises you did and it was super clear and helpful! Great work! 👍😁
Thanks a lot for making this video. Understanding this new structure will surely save me a lot of potential headache!
Thanks for taking the time to make this video!
I use the pluggin called unassigned devices for my camera and temp 'download' drive, i then move any media i want to keep onto the array. I just use a old hdd for this drive until it eventually fails, saves spinning up the array / wear and tear on good drives and electric 😀. Cheers
I notice, just like mine your browser shows 'not secure' im a total newb on this, how would i make it secure? Video idea? 😀. Cheers
You can avoid the shfs overhead by referencing the non-shfs path, regardless of share settings. Example: /mnt/nvme-cache/appdata/mariadb vs /mnt/usr/appdata/mariadb
