  1. Musk is something of a fraudster himself. What happened to his promise to decensor Twitter/X? I'm shadow banned on Twitter/X (they actually messaged me to inform me) for referring to Israel as an apartheid state. And most of the other people who were banned before Musk bought the company are still banned today. One or two high profile people were allowed back on the platform to give the illusion that the censorship had been lifted, but it hasn't. If anything the platform is more heavily censored now than it was before Musk took it over.

  2. Tricky situation. Perhaps "Free Speech" does protect lies. However, there are laws against slander/libel. So, a newspaper may be able to tell some lies, legally, but if that newspaper prints lies which hurt the reputation of somebody, then that newspaper is guilty of libel/slander. Thus, lies which deliberately seek to harm somebody's reputation are not protected under "Free Speech"; you can debate whether "Free Speech" should protect all lies/misinformation or not. Another issue here is whether X (formerly Twitter) should be held accountable for content posted to it. This is an old debate related to social media, and I don't actually know whether the Law says that a social media platform is accountable for all content posted. The laws may vary depending on what country you live in. Obviously, companies can always stop having their advertisements appearing on an unregulated social media platform if they wish. Personally, if I see an advertisement for "Company A" next to a racist posting on social media, I do not draw the conclusion that "Company A" is promoting that racist comment. A company that promotes censorship does trouble me, however.

  3. And I find it pretty amazing every reaction here is in favour of Musk and everyone is happy to embrace X view instead of an organization who claims to control social media. That is no coincidence.

  4. Maybe media matters is right in what they claim. Maybe Musk law suit is based on disinformatian. Maybe Musk as a free speech absolutist is not so much for free speech if it critizises him. Maybe Musk is a pathological liar. So looking at Musk claims over the years who are not true I doubt his sincereness.

  5. All right wing players are up in arms to crush media matters. This shows me that media Matters is truthful. Do you really think that the advertisers
are not able to research the claims media matters makes. Are they so naive. I can tell you that X is showing a lot of right wing narratives. I never asked for all these right wing accounts. I think media matters have a point. X is a right wing conspiracies hub since Musk took over

  6. Media Matters absolutely should be liable for slander and lost revenue, if proven guilty. Free speech absolutely should be protected, but when it is used to cause damage against others, it has to be held accountable. Maybe if there was a cost to lies and manipulation, people would learn to respect the right of free speech rather than abusing it for gain or forcing a false narrative on others.

  7. Notice that many of these outfits that call themselves with names that project honorable intentions and values are corrupt and their true agenda is often opposite of those said values.

  8. If the government was behind Media Matters and if Media Matters was their stooge, Media Matters should still. be sued. Media Matters shouldn't allow itself to be used. In fact, if Media Matters was coerced from the government then Media Matters should have made that public. Unless their media doesn't matter.

  9. Kim, I have to disagree with you on this. If they, Media Matters, intentionally misrepresent and dishonestly report on an issue or matter (especially if they have an agenda and or goal that harms another entity), then they should be held accountable, as long as there is proof. Same for politicians and bureaucrats.

  10. what is interesting is that it was easy to expose media maters. SO goes the claim that this far left crowd is smart and follows science. They are so outgunned. MSNBC and CNN will never cover this and it is important to expose the stupidity. What they should worry about is Elon turns loose some high power talent and they start getting some embarrassing / personal damaging actions by that crowd

  11. Gee I wonder how these billion dollar corporations feel about the USA supporting Nazis in Ukraine? And how do we know Media Matters didn't create these dangerous antisemitic accounts in the first place?
