I actually got super lucky in that my dessert island factory base had two oil sites spawn in with the update, though I had to clear some foundation to reach them. Without super-breeding, I can run the whole base with 3 Orzek (two assigned to the new power tower, one to a basic generator) and the powerline booster. Assuming all three are actively generating electricity that is. If any of them take a break, power starts draining. So I imagine four Orzek on two power towers could likely run a full factory fairly efficiently, though there is the possibility that if they don't have the Nocturnal trait, the oil drills could drain your power overnight.

However, I still feel like crude oil is just generated way too slowly, especially since you need 5 oil per plasteel, and you need a lot of plasteel for anything. It almost feels like it's faster to go to the new island and slaughter Kikits, which you can find a lot of in the sandy areas and have a 50% chance of dropping oil. Now I want someone to run the numbers on what's faster; a base with two oil rigs (how it's meant to be done), a kikit breeding program feeding them into the new Pal Disassembly Conveyor, or a daily kikit genocide (there's at least one other pal that has a 50% oil drop, but that one is dungeon exclusive it seems, so not as easily farmable).

With the adition of ore mining site there is no point on looking for the regular ores spots anymore?

For power, I use 2 Orserk with Norternal + artist + serious + slave for 3 oil extraction

Tip: you can place 2 oil extractors on 1 oil spot if you place it right
