  1. I tried KVM/VFIO with multiple distros and it was more of a headache nightmare riddled with problems and hassle than it was worth. Micro stutters, and hitching, graphics card reset bugs, having to figure out how to hack my gpu to allow splitting it's resources, omg no thank you. This technology would be so freaking cool if it actually was main stream and supported by manufacturers, it's just not there yet.

  2. im a 18 year windows user and im eyeing nixos. id love to have a nixos as my main system, with a virtualized windows 10 that uses a real hard drive and where i can run windows programs inside linux.

  3. All i want for 3d accel with no passthough is to have a qemu vm on my unraid machine that doesn't have horrible graphics lag in both windows and linux when using the vnc viewer…

  4. From my experience thoe, vmware for quick, and nicely performant vms and qemu or qemu-kvm for more advanced ones, even virgl for linux hasn't been that good, where-as vmware after setting blacklisted drivers to true you see the difference, at least on windows(8.1 tested recently).

  5. Qemu with virgl does quite well for 3d accelerated VMs. The only "issue" is the lack of stable windows drivers for virgl guests, so it pretty much only works for Linux VMs. Nvidia even finally got with the program and provided HBM support, so it should work with their GPUs now too.

  6. Could you do a walkthrough on some of your default-work-environment stuff? Looking at the nixos config file, got steam-run going, but now … what is all this other stuff, and what precisely is it doing for you?
