I set my lab up with refurbished Lenovo 1L 6th gen computers. At roughly $200 each from Amazon with 32g ram, I consider them a good deal. My NAS is a Lenovo SFF refurb for about the same price, but has space for a couple of disks.
I have that same NAS currently. I was able to score it from a business that was upgrading. It’s definitely not fast but it gets the person in the Synology game. Good to learn the UI, how they do stuff. I’d recommend a person that wants their first NAS to just repurpose an old computer with a cheap HBA card or something though
