Miniatures in movies are way more common than you may realize, and one of the most stylish filmmakers keeping them alive is Wes Anderson. In this…

Something is way off here. First off Wes Anderson is in a class by Himself. He's intentionally making his models look out of scale, like they're toy models. To include his style in the same sentence as all the other model shops who build models to actually look real, this whole presentation sounds kind of silly
What kind of wood is the "special African wood" they use to make miniatures?
Something about this style emits so much happiness. Even if its intended to be creepy its always endearing
Was great to film with Wes Anderson and see how he works closely.
Water.. always Fights against the amazing work done by effects artist…
Great video although weird to hear miniatures discussed with no mention of Eiji Tsuburaya, he was the goat even considering budget
Yeh but it is done so so well and see, ingress with the plot, it is not something I really think about when immersed in the feature.
I love it!!!!
His work with Wes Anderson is just amazing. It has to be I suppose with Anderson's incredible attention to detail. He tells such great stories on so many levels.
I'm really having trouble finding this topic and video interesting. There's gotta be something else to make a video on…
man this doubles the work, it's amazing just how much effort they spend for such movies
This is amazing 👏
Exactamente, ellos son las verdaderas estrellas de las películas
Nice

Pretty fundamental stuff familiar to all but beginners. However, does shed light on some of the reasons Anderson is such a horrible director.
Cutting too fast to enjoy the scenes. This shouldn't be edited like a car chase!
I remember from a documentary about the Lord of the rings, they referred to the huge miniatures as "bigatures" or something like that 😄

Explicación!!!!
What happens to all those fantastic models after filming is complete? Please don't say they are destroyed!!
REAL ARTISTS!!!!
Wait!
That hotel from the Grand Budapest Hotel is just a miniature?!
I thought that was a real hotel! No wonder I can't find that hotel on Google.
Wow this is some amazing movie tricks.
The miniature crew for Lord of the Rings is in a league of their own. They sho for over 1000 days and were still shooting for the extended cut even after they had won their Oscar for Return of the King. Those shots and miniatures still hold up today because of the seamless blends Weta Digital and Weta Workshop produced.
11.9 mil subs, 1.6 mil views and 382b comments…yup that tracks.
I was a miniature secondary prop designer for a major motion picture studio earlier in my career. Worked on some well known movies too, my favorite being Asteroid City. Feel free to ask me anything.

Your name (Vox) could confuse people with a guitar amp brand with the same name.
to the wes q
Fascinating! Thx. This kinda stuff got me into media production some 50 years ago as a 10 year old who had just seen Star Wars in the theater.
fascinating. thank you….I wonder where that train is now.
In Asteroid City, I could absolutely tell that the mountains in the background were mini. At first they looked good, but then those sideways crawl shots allowed me to parallax the distance better. They weren't miles away like the movie implied. They were very close.
If they had instead done a spin shot or a pan up, it would have hidden the real distance much better.
Remember, the focal length itself doesn’t compress, the relative distance does that. Focal length just allows us to fill the frame with what we need AT that distance.
Interesting that you didn't use the standard photographic nomenclature of "depth-of-field".
💯👍
Can't stand this guy, or his "style". If qwirky could be pretentious, Wes rings that bell.
Really interesting
A whole video on miniatures without mentioning Lord of the Rings is kind of a downer.
pienso en Cor Aline
y no entiendo cómo con todo el avance que por ejemplo a hecho Lego
no se aprovecha este recurso
que además es irreemplazable
Thought I was just going to watch something entertaining – but ended up learning a good few things I can apply to my miniature making endeavours! Well done on a great video. 🎉🙌
I’ve always been fascinated by miniatures and how they are used in all ways including cinematography.
