Quick little video here on how to extend the tether in non-dedicated server sessions for Ark Survival Ascended. Hope this is helpful! Let me know if you have other questions you’d like me to make quick little videos to answer or explain!
Edit: console players are telling me this isn’t working on console. That might change, it might not, just letting you know. I changed the title of the video to reflect that.

  1. Update! As I said in the video, I have no way of testing things on console.
Console players are telling me that this either doesn't work at all, or it's very limited and will only change a little bit.

Seems MS/Sony/WC didn't want to risk crashes by allowing console players to change the tether very much. Since as I explain in the video, doing so is a big burden on your machine and can cause crashing.

Maybe once they've stabilized and optimized the game some more, perhaps that will change. But consoles will never have as many options available as PC, since MS and Sony want to keep it simple and easy and as free of bugs and crashes as possible for their players.

On Steam it's like "you wanna fiddle with the game and change stuff and maybe break it or make it crash? Whatevs, you do you, we don't care, it's the wild Wild West in here". That's also why Steam are always the alpha testers. Consoles not so much. Has to be plug and play, and just work.

So on console seems like the current options are:
    -get used to the tether
-wait and hope it gets better
-rent a dedicated server (if you order it at my link: https://nitra.do/songbirdgaming it helps out the channel! Thanks!)
    -join a server community

There are lots of great ones out there, some free, some paid. I have servers for my channel membership community, you can join and play for as little as $3/month. Right now I have a crossplay Svartalfheim modded server and a modded Island server that's Steam only. For info on how to join, click the "join" button below the video next to "subscribe".

  2. Can't speak for console, but this does NOT work on PC. The setting simply does not work, whether you change in-game or edit .ini file. Widely known, we can only pray Wildcard fixes "soon"

  3. On console typing in a number does nothing the lowest tether is 100meters at 1 and 225meters at 3 -still an improvement to ase’s 150 meter max but still very misleading to those who think they can increase it.

Edit: caves also can only be entered by host
