Nothing like a receptive politician
I'm from Centralia.
It seems like Illinois has always had corrupt politicians.

Illinois has been rotten to the core from its inception. Even great fires cannot burn hot enough to burn out the corruption in the hearts of Springfield politicians & the cabals in Chicago who manage them.
Why didn't they just quit their jobs?
Centralia seems to be an unlucky place to dig a coal mine in any state.
The town of Cherry Illinois was the site of another mine disaster.
Centralia is a bad name for anything coal . Ask Pa . Its still burning , just not as deadly.

If I had a nickel for every town called Centralia which had a mine disaster… I'd have two nickels. But it's still weird that it happened twice.
If you live in a town called Centralia, there's probably a mine. Don't work in that Centralia's mine, and in fact, don't live in the town, because bad things come in threes and I'm only aware of two of these… so far.
Side note: Good reminder that I need to visit Centralia, PA. Been meaning to for years.
I agree we should remember all that have past making this country what it is today. Never forget.

Don't forget Scotia. 15 miners and 11 engineers with investigators died in 2 explosions. Coal companies big and small like
Pyro, and Wildcats never cared about miners or the UMW.
