What's happening to Earth at the hands of humans is very sad… I've been to this part of Peru. These people are not starving… they pretty much just want IPhones… there is food literally everywhere that drops on the ground for free. Plants, fruit, wild hogs, all sorts of game animals… In fact by strip mining the jungle they are destroying their own free sources of food… this is just a desperate attempt to join the capitalist world economy at the expense of their own native lands… it's really a huge tragedy for the entire planet.

Truth be told the legal mining typically doesn't support the local economy which is abused and the wealth is transferred to other countries such as mine here in Canada. If the "illegal" mining keeps the wealth local, it's ok by me. Plus is a shame to see what we and other counties do to the local environments. It should be illegal.
