  1. We are after the gold rush now. Ive spent 27 years permitting mining operation on Federal lands. Yes, there are minerals that are difficult for the USA to obtain in the USA, but like oil there are no shortages of minerals. There are also no shortcuts to obtaining minerals these days strategic or not. If demand is there someone will figure a way to get at it. Days of fast, easy and cheap minerals are over. To think one can go out and dredge up valuable ore with minimal efforts are foolish at best. Perhaps its time for the USA to rethink its vision for strategic minerals production. I would hope it will depend less on getting it from 3rd world countries fast cheap and easy.

  2. So whats the rush to be greedy USA? All those minerals already are being mined without deep sea mining. Go ahead and let CCP show the world how aggressive and ill mannered they can be.

  3. I couldn't care less about environmental impact. This is way too important of an opportunity to pass up, especially if our geopolitical rivals are using it to take advantage of us.

  4. how is 60 minutes and no one in the comment section aware of the recent news, the largest deposit of rare earth minerals were found in the Wyoming USA, its going to be the world leader, THEN they found an even larger one than that nearby. 6. The decision of being out of the game is obviously coming from oil investor companies, which is a wrong move from congress people, who have the job to vote in favor, if benefits the whole nation, and obviously this does.

  7. The reason we wont ratify the treaty is because this is actually a unique ecosystem. The ocean bottom where these nodules lay is silt and mud. These nodules are the only things within thousands of miles in some cases for marine plant and animal life to cling to. You pull up these nodules and you turn one of the largest ecosystems on the planet into a desert wasteland.

  8. The ocean makes mostly our oxygen now, and yes let’s destroy it. And sell oxygen to the masses in the future for profit. Destroy forests check which makes o2, now destroy ocean that makes o2. Now sell 02 like oil.

  9. china's flexing of muscle, building military power and not playing by the rules is the same way other countries viewed America in the past but as a student of history this isn't surprising I just listen to hear the reactions and analyze the times were living in

  10. I wonder how much money those 34 senators got from the fossil fuel big companies. Too much lobbying in the American Politics and policy making, and they say it’s a democratic system !! It’s called buying votes, lobbying kills democracy!!
