  1. I really wish they would start coming out with multi-bay NAS enclosures with 2.5" bays! I want a NAS enclosure, the same size as shown in the video, but with 2.5" drive bays, should be able to get double the bays in the space that the old 3.5" rust drives take up. I want my solid state storage right on the PCIe bus and if I need slow robust rust storage, I can pit it in a second enclosure and hook it in with fast usb, since the latest usb standards are now out pacing what SATA can do anyway.

  2. The problem is that companies are either at or over the competitors when they enter the market with these NAS units. Curious to know who they commissioned to build their units.

  3. Hardware seems pretty nice but I have serious doubts about UGreen suddenly becoming a software company. I give it about a week after this thing is released until remote access is compromised.

  4. Looks like nice kit, and presuming you can put something else on it it could be a great TrueNAS host–8GB of RAM out of the box, expandable to 32GB, is a very good sign. Just wonder what the network hardware is; hopefully not Realtek garbage.

  5. It would've been nice to see 25Gbps or even 40Gbps networking on the all-flash models. 10Gbps is not even remotely fast enough to take advantage of gen 3 NVMe storage, let alone gen 4 or 5.

  6. I've got a handful of UGREEN products that I use pretty regularly because they're fairly inexpensive and they work. Two SD card readers, a SATA to USB adapter, and an external hard drive enclosure. If I ever find myself in need of a NAS then I know where I'm going to look first. 😁

  7. Need pricing. These only make sense when the price is right.
Also, can it run existing NAS software like TrueNAS, OMV, UnRAID, etc? I trust that software more than their in-house, new, and relatively un-tested software. 3rd party software like TrueNAS has many more eyes on it, and will get updates beyond what a hardware vendor arbitrarily decides is the lifecycle for their product. Every IoT 'appliance' will end up with no support in the future.

  8. I don't know if you mentioned ECC but I was looking at the spec list for these and it only mentions support for the on-die ECC that's standard for DDR5, so if that's a requirement then this isn't it. If that 6 bay is competitively priced then I'm surely interested

  9. Wow this is cool hopefully their price is competitive because synology while great is overpriced for the hw. If they allow us to install any os also on it this will be a killer for them

  10. Awesome!! I want this! I recently thought of getting a Terramaster NAS to set it up as a home lab using Proxmox, but I didn't want the old Intel N5095 and finally decided to get an Intel N100 Mini PC instead. With this new NAS I could get the best of both worlds, I love it! I think my beloved Mini PC will get replaced as soon as the UGREEN devices hit the market. 🤩

  11. Saw an article a few months ago where ugreen was looking for beta testers for the 2 and 4 bay version. I registered for that and got a mail this week where I had to answer a few more questions. I believe they will choose the testers at the end of January.

I'm curious to see what the actual product feels like and how the software is.
