In this video, we’re going to go over two more of the worst disasters in history. I have to warn you: although these two accidents are completely different, they’re both absolutely horrifying nightmare scenarios. Probably some of the worst that have been covered on this channel. So, although…

  1. A father of a friend of mine when I was in high school was in a mine accident where the train car to descend into the mine had a brake failure. There was no speedometer, so he has no idea how fast he was going, but he ended riding the loop at the bottom for several minutes until the car was slow enough to jump off of. He had no idea if he would survive a derailment at that speed. There wasn't even any documentation of a near miss. Just a work order to repair the brakes.

  2. Dead man switch, hahaha, my father was an engineer and he and many other engineers used to put a fuse/road flare on the pedal of the switch to hold it down. I witnessed it many times as a kid when I got to ride on the engine. Smh.

  3. Correction: Apartheid was a system of institutionalized racial segregation and discrimination in South Africa, with white people enjoying superior rights and privileges over black, colored, and Indian people.
The ruling class = white people. Let's call a spade a spade.

  4. I know the molasses story was horrible…but can we all recognize there was only one human on earth that rode a tidal wave of molasses on his bed thru town picking up his sister on the way?…..I thought I heard it all!

  5. Both stories are incredibly frustrating, especially the molasses one. They knew it was badly constructed, and the man with the shards in his hands being ignored was the worst. RIP to those poor souls who died because of shoddy construction and the USIA avoiding obvious issues until it was too late.

  6. I've been wanting someone to cover Vaal Reefs for years now and no one ever does! i mostly just wanted to understand how the train ended up in the mine shaft. thank you!

Also, on a positive note, I am glad that you also covered that the owners were found guilty of murder, an investigation happened, and workers got compensation – and how different that was from apartheid. It was a horrific accident that should never have happened, but thank God it at least didn't happen 6 years earlier.

  7. Such a shame that a formerly semi prospering country, S. Africa, is now close to becoming a fourth world nation.

Dense urban cityscapes now needing to be avoided just to keep your life because of the animals that roam those streets and buildings… being like roaches and scavenging anything left while not bothering to upkeep anything built and lacking intelligence to build anything new…
