  1. Its not up to the game developer, its up the the game developer and the users, and how the interaction will play out.
I could see something like a split experience. Dyson Sphere Program has a meta game of who can produce the most power in a particular seed, but if you use plugins that change how the game progresses you lose access to that meta game. This seems perfectly reasonable.
So, for instance, I wouldn't stop the game from running if it were modified, but I might prevent it from interacting with officially sanctioned gameplay, such as championships.
Then again, creating a separate free for all sound like a meta game of a different nature, and may make the developer more money.

  2. I'd really appreciate a livestream stepping through some installation guidelines for Linux today, especially around disk encryption and defaults. I recently bought my dad a new gaming laptop with Windows 11, and only much later did I discover that I couldn't remove the password from his profile because the disk was encrypted with Bitlocker by default.

  3. Hey just thought i'd drop a comment.. I appreciate this kind of content! I've always been very happy to sit down and listen to what ever you have to say Wendell; you are a font of high quality information! Coming from the main channel, unfortunately, I might be the wrong demographic for this specific channel, but im trying to learn what I can. I wish I was comfortable enough with linux to daily drive it. I find there are so many choices involved when trying to replace Windows. As it gets worse and worse, i feel it is increasingly necessary. But what is right for me? A repeat case of analysis paralysis. Anyways, best of luck with this project. i'm here for it!

  4. Giving the programmers access to the "Truth" of whether or not the user is messing with memory sounds like a golden ticket for malware developers.
The good ones are already jumping through hoops to make their code nearly impossible to get information on while debugging.
Giving a program a secure channel to verify it's memory space is untampered with, and unseen, is absolutely a NO GO on consumer hardware.
The only acceptable way to do anti-cheat is to do it server side. And only for competitive multiplayer games.
Make the servers smart enough to log things properly and FLAG users with bad behavior.
Don't simply ban them. That's the cheap bullshit way.
Flag them and have a HUMAN ghost them and decide if they are cheating.
Even better if it requires 2 different admins confirmation.

Would this cost actual money? Yeah.
Is it better than creating an environment for growing the PC equivalent of antibiotic resistant bacteria? Absolutely.

  5. YAY! I wish I saw it was live, I would have been watching for sure! I am getting into Linux, finally. I have always played in there, but nothing deep. I just setup a multi node docker setup and learning that along with a home lab HA Proxmox cluster so I have been spending a lot more time in it. Gaming needs to come just a bit further and I am sold

  6. meh, shame i missed it.. had some questions on setting up a llm agent.
(playing with opendevin trying to get it to work with codellama and ollama as no api keys needed, so is free to use)
managed to get it installed and running on debian but its still error-ing out when i try to talk to it.
oh well.. guess i keep pluggin.

  7. The software is certainly better than the 1920 vintage VRMs and 1895/1920/1988 PSUs used in PCs. The 21st-century circuits perform better, are smaller, and are cheaper. However, the manufacturers refuse to update their circuits. Modern designs use integrated magnetics and hybrid switching.

  8. For your question about game mod/hack…
I want to be able to do whatever I want with a game I paid for. I don't care about how the dev want me to play…
I would even permit multiplayer for hacked games, but it would only connect to other players that have the exact same mod.
    Maybe disable ranking and achievements…
