Create and mount virtual USB flash drive |VMware Communities

If you have images created with tools like dd you can treat them as a vmdk of type monolithicFlat or VMFS if you are using ESXi.
Just create the descriptorfile like this:

# Disk DescriptorFile

version=1

encoding=”windows-1252″

CID=fffffffe

parentCID=ffffffff

isNativeSnapshot=”no”

createType=”monolithicFlat”

# Extent description

RW 837632 FLAT “usb-image.dd” 0

# The Disk Data Base

#DDB

ddb.adapterType = “lsilogic”

ddb.virtualHWVersion = “12”

Adjust this line:
RW <size of image in sectors> FLAT “usb-image.dd” 0
to match your dd-image.
