  1. If you want stable without errors GUI crashing use Debian..it is simple all distros are basicly the same thing with different package. The thing that defines stable is never the bleeding edge..so i prefer stability over bleeding edge. Debian just uses tested package and kernel, never the newest untested. I general what is the use of a system that often breaks? You can have supported newest hardware which is not so much of a deal when you consider unstable system..and "little" better performance..i think it is a great sacrifice for that matter..so Fedora, arch, no thanks:D

  2. I switched to Debian 12 from Windows 10 at the start of this year. I now only use Windows for the occasional bit of homework that requires it. Something that really impressed me was that, on windows, my computer was consistently using about 1 gigabyte of page file, but on Debian, it uses none. This is with 16 gigs of ram.

  3. I hadn't tried running Linux since Ubuntu around Dapper/Edgy but gave this a shot last week on my convertible laptop running Win11. Yeah I did the web install, yeah I was a bit confused about being asked for a domain name and about installing GRUB, but these weren't huge barriers and the drivers worked fine for my network adapter.

The combo of Wayland & later GNOME is a big step up compared to the last time I used it on 2.x in Ubuntu. It's way more aesthetically pleasing and responsive. Eye-candy wise, it's on par with Windows. Being more minimalist and untainted by corporate bloat, I even prefer it. Using auto-cpufreq I'm getting significantly better battery life than on Windows. Virtualisation & remote desktop performance feels improved. It feels like I upgraded the machine.

The only things that didn't work following installation was autorotation in tablet mode and the fingerprint reader. Monitoring iio-sensor-proxy I could see the rotation sensor events were being detected, but strangely nothing was happening in response, so I had to figure out how to install a script to make it rotate. Some of the more advanced settings like that are missing from the Settings app, but that's part of the fun I guess. Still gotta figure out how to make fprintd work, but it's otherwise been surprisingly easy to get comfortable daily driving this

  4. I have just installed Debian 12 on one of my laptops 2 days ago with the Cinnamon Desktop. I must that it is lighter than the Linux Mint and Mint LMDE Cinnamon. The Mint version comes with the Mate apps and Mate Panel but the Debian version doesn't. Which is much better. I am finding it very stable and very user friendly which I am surprised with. As when I tried Debian 11 some of the settings such as network was turned off but on 12 everything is ready to go. It is also using much less disk space than Mint's version at only 10Gb probably because Debian does not come with so many apps as Mint's does. I prefer to install my own media player and web browsers of my choice rather than have a load of office apps and things baked in which I won't use anyway. It is best to start with the net install which is the minimal install then install the Gnome Flashback desktop. Then the desktop you want once you log in. As Gnome Flashback come with minimal software so is easy to then remove. At least that is what I did. Debian does not come with many themes but many of Linux Mint themes can be installed on Debian and they all work. The only thing I don't like about it is it comes with Firefox ESR instead of the updated Firefox. But the way round that is to install your own browser of your choice by adding the repositories as I have done. I now have Waterfox and Google Chrome on my system which is updated regular as it is on Ubuntu. Debian 12 is working well for me so far so I will keep it on that laptop and see how it goes. Another good thing about Debian is it doesn't come bundled with Snap or Flatpak as many other Linux Distros do. It also comes in 32 bit which means you can run it on an older laptop such as a netbook if you want.

  5. Debian is the best Distro and super stable compared to others. Its so hard to break Debian and even if you break it it will still work lol. I never had any issues setting it up and I love the fact that I can use the non graphical install to set things up. I tried so many distros for best battery life and Debian 12.2 crushed all the previous tests!
Works best with KDE plasma. This Distro is the father of many and it needs more love from those who use any distro based on Debian. I'm glad you did this video after the first one. Because of this you a like.

  6. After I spent a little over a year with MX I tried to use Debian, it's a pain to install, so I just gave up, now I am more than happy with Fedora, really plug an play, generraly all around awesome.

  7. Guys, Is it safe to assume my intel 6th gen laptop will get along with Debian? It also has Nvidia gpu, a lame MX110. But I don't think I will use it for gaming with that gpu because it doesn't make any difference in Dota 2. Lmao.
Would you recommend me to use Debian? I'm a Windows user since XP, with very limited experience dualbooting with some Linux distro for distro hopping. 😅

  8. As someone who switched to Debian 12 about a week ago I have to say I've been quite pleased. The only gripe so far has been that Debian team still refuses to add the bluetooth ACC codec to their repos unlike every other distro due to some legal fears.

  9. I use NEPTUNE 8, based on DEBIAN 12– and focused on FLATPAKS..and light weight speed.. beautiful, quick and easy. I also still use SPARKY – also based on DEbian.. BOTH rock stable and faster than arch..and easier to use.

  10. Ya, right, I downloaded Debian to try on my VM. It took several hours to load up, and then the audio part would not work right. I also tried Zorin OS and had no trouble at all. Also, you cannot get help with Debian but you can with the Zorin Community. So, which do you thin people want to use?

  11. the recent debian hype got me to try installing it again.
first impressions: It is still the only distro where I have to download wifi drivers and put them on another usb stick during install.
Also the only distro I've tried where sound doesn't work out of the box.
It feels extremely barebone and empty.
But it loads up fast and it revived a machine that Manjaro had previously killed.
So I am torn if I like it or not.

  12. Very nice review! I like Debian 12 except for one thing – the default wallpaper(s). How hard would it be for the Debian team to include say six really stunning wallpapers? Maybe all nature or landscape wallpapers. The default wallpapers all look like something from about 1998!
