HUG Luxembourg: Create VM images on VMware vSphere using Packer

Automate the creation of your golden images for VMware vSphere using Packer. Then, spin up your VMs with the golden images using Terraform.

Ryan Johnson presents a well-documented and configurable project for creating vSphere images stored in a vSphere Content Library.

Since HCL2 becomes officially the preferred way to write Packer configurations, the templates are written in HCL2.

During the image build, the software updates are installed on Linux and Windows (using the Packer Windows Update plugin).

Moreover, the project gives some Terraform examples for the following tasks:
– Automate the creation of the custom vSphere role
– Automate the creation of a VM using Guest customization
– Automate the creation of a VM using Cloud-Init
