1:11:00 100% agree. It's so annoying they don't have ability backup the host. Restoring the /etc folder doesn't work properly, at least for me, and I had to rebuild the cluster. So annoying.
Synology definitely A, maybe B tier, provided you get a decent device. No lower no way unless you buy the lower cost ones, then ok.
Sometimes you need a tool to work, not build to work and tinker with. The software is good.
Linux is at least A tier. Compress down the home lab to a Linux workstation and you can side step the burden of 'voltroning' a bunch of stuff together.
Synology is F tier. Garbage hardware that will break and leave you stranded for weeks while you wait for a RMA if you are still in support. Many such cases
Unraid: F. Go away and die
TrueNAS scale: A. File server first with containers/virtualization. Probably the best small homelab server
TrueNAS core: F: Replaced with scale. BSD is a backwater.
XCP-ng: A tier. The management is holding it back but otherwise its guts are the best.
Windows (Hyper-v) C tier. It gets the job done but its not great. Its probably better than most people give it credit.
Obviously Proxmox is S tier. Delivers the most… I just wish it had native file and application (podman/docker) services.
VMware: S tier if you are willing to pay for the full feature set, but otherwise C tier.
Definitely gonna be watching this VOD at work today.

@jims-garage, I run Meraki since I use it at work but it is unobtainable for most home users and homelabbers. I like the features but I know it is a bit overkill but I got a great deal on my gear. Lol
