Yep I’m sure you’ve read it already but omg esxi free is no more. This is a not surprising but upsetting change coming from vmware / broadcom.

What does this mean for home lab users, what does this mean for non VMUG members? Well it means you gotta pay for it if you want it.

  1. I can say with confidence that Nutanix does not have feature parity to VMware. As one example, their VM affinity/anti-affinity rules are complete garbage. As another example, their guest tools and VM console is way behind VMware. They have a lot of catch up to do.

  2. I finally decided to setup a home lab and am running Proxmox. Your videos are awesome, everyone puts up a video installing and building your first VM, yeah anyone can do that. You're showing enterprise level stuff, really appreciate that. Keep them coming, when you have time of course, LOL.

    As much as I want my company to go to Proxmox, we use Nimble Storage, can't do NFS shares. XCP-NG has a 2 TB limit on virtual disks. Out of 400 or so VM's we have 1 that's over 3TB. That's a no go. Looking like Hyper V for us, depending on the renewal fee of course.
