We review the most anticipated Core i9 mini PC of the year the Minisforum MS-01 with SFP+ 10GbE networking, a PCIe slot, and 3x M.2 slots. This has almost everything for the Windows, Proxmox VE, Ubuntu, and Linux users. VMware users may take pause. We tested a ton of cards in this system as well…

Why did they even design M.2 and U.2 to be pin compatible, makes no sense to me.
An interesting system, but still misses the mark for me. I want a system with a couple of m.2 e.key for either an Lte or Coral TPU alongside the WiFi. Yes it can be done with adapters but heh. Also needs a more energy sipping CPU. 90-120w is too high.
Getting closer though Minisforum.
What is that system monitor app that he is using?
i wounder which brand of SFP to RJ45 adaptors work with this device?
Does it have a IPMI/KVM interface?
Question: can you run a standard SATA ssd in that u.2 adapter?
Can this run ESXI 7/8?
Thanks! You even nailed my 25Gbit card curiosity for this review. I know they need to recoup their R&D costs (so this expectation may be unrealistic) but if it was closer to the $500-550 mark I would immediately go into credit card debt (again) and spring for it — but I'm still eagerly waiting for my Qotom Q20332G9 to arrive!
what is the motherboard on this?
anyone else triggered by the left SFP+ Port being bent?
I would really love to see someone do a review on the Lenovo P3 Ultra. It is the newer generation of the P360 Ultra and is just a bit bigger than this here;
13th gen Intel, NVIDIA A2000, ECC ram support and a PCIe slot x8 which I would use for the QNAP card you used in this video and connect to the 4-bay QNAP DAS. I doubt the Lenovo unit gives you the option of nuking your SSD too š
By chance did you try installing a virtualization OS on it such as VMware ESXi?
Moist
they could put the switch under the ssd so if the switch in wrong position the m.2 dont fit. but their u.2 adapter have a hole that allow the switch to go thru at the u.2 position.
This is probably the ultimate small form factor firewall box!
Does Vpro and amt actually work? If so, please accept my kidney
side note: I'm not surprised the QNAP card didn't work; Minisforum rushes their BIOSes out the door. the option ROM on my Broadcom 10G cards screwed with the ability of my BD710is to POST and I bet the PCIe switch on the QNAP card triggered something in the Minisforum BIOS that caused it to have an aneurysm every time it tried to boot.
Adding SAS HBA and installing TrueNAS would be interesting
Their website says M.2 NVMe SSD supporting Max capacity of 2TB; but then U.2 NVMe SSD support Max of 24TB one U.2 NVMe and 2 x 22110 M.2 NVMe SSD – anyone know how?
@ServeTheHomeVideo Thanks for the review ! Could you test if ECC memory is properly recognized and used ? If so, this mini server should be a dream machine for building ZFS NAS !
i build a mini abonatiotion gaming pc of a acer veriton n4640g and a fullsize rx6600 gpu with a dell 200w external powerbrick with 8pin connector.
in a aluminium briefcase with 1080p monitor i love this tiny machines
Two words: Game Changer
Just ordered one, $200 off for $829, includes 32GB and 1TB SSD. Good riddance HP Microserver…
I want this is with a lesser CPU. Been looking to replace my R210ii with something more power efficient for my pfsense router. Even better: rack mount option so I don't need to get a shelf.
I have heard the qnap m.2 carrier has issues with Phison based nvme drives, not sure what you had in that unit just FYI.
New studios looking great!
Has anybody tried to turn this into hackintosh?
Great report, Iāve been looking for a VM test lab hardware, the product designers can fix the voltage switch by modifying the drive bracket, such that it cannot be installed unless the U.2 is selected, simple fix with sheet metal.
hm nice, that one was close. Now add an Xeon with ECC Support…
Would adding a warning label thatās visible even when a SATA drive is installed be enough to address the concern regarding the M.2 port voltage setting?
Between this and the Qotom system you guys recently reviewed it looks like some companies out there are listening to what the 'lower' end of the market and home labbers are looking for. Still needs some work but this is the first $400+ mini I'd consider buying over building my own or buying second hand. Now if they could stuff 2 of these into a 1u chassis with lower TDP CPU's (maybe AMD?) at a reasonable price… Well I can dream anyway.
the last one is HDMI2.1 4k 120hzā¦ that would have sold me.
Upgrading the external power brick won't help your power budget if the internal DC-DC converter can't handle more than what the stock power supply could deliver.
What would you use this for?
i really dont know who its for – its a grate all rounder but over all kinda wierd 600-800buks is too much
I subscribed because of the quality of your video š„ thank you
Costs $679 barebones.
@ServeTheHomeVideo have you tested Proxmox VE?
are you able to PCI Passthrough all that hardware to the VMs? let me know ! thank you for everything you do in every video
"Your order cannot be shipped to the selected address. Review your address to ensure it's correct and try again, or select a different address." I guess they don't like Canadians. Well, at least they show a drop-down of countries that includes Canada, as if to raise hopes before shattering them on the next page as if to say the drop down and address selection were just a tease.
I wonder when they make a NAS like mini-PC with hotswap 4x 2.5" HDD's
Thank you for a more detailed clip….appreciated
Thks & solves my 10Gbps problem with my Synology NAS
I feel like they missed an opportunity by not making the bottom part 8-10mm higher – could have fit a full-fat U.2 drive plus more clearance for M.2 heatsinks and that blower.
Arrr. I so so want to watch this. But the INCESSANT background music is a put off so much that I couldn't take it any more by seven minutes in.
