vCenter Server 6 Essentials License Question when adding a 4th node.

I’m running *vCenter Server 6 Essentials* with the included *vSphere 6 Essentials (6 CPUs)* over 3 hardware hosts, the included licenses cover the 2 CPU’s of each host.

I’m planning to add a 4th server.

Can I re-use the existing vCenter Server 6 Essentials instance and just buy again the same package and add the 4th server to the existing vCenter Server 6 Essentials instance using 2 of the included licenses from the new package or do I need to re-install a second vCenter Server 6 Essentials instance and use that to control this 4th server?

  1. to add 4 nodes, you will need to switch to a standard license for vcenter and for hosts. you do not need to reinstall anything. vcenter server essential can manage a maximum of 3 dual-socket hosts, vcenter standard cannot manage essential hosts.
