A real computer is an emulation of a Turing Machine / Lambda Calculus … It is actually analog pretending to be digital on the physical level. Software is a tower of Virtual Machines because nobody wants to program a Turing Machine ;-( So basically nothing is as it appears except for the electric voltages. What a Virtual Machine means is a human imposition it isn't inherent. Not history .. verity.
