“SoundDrout”

In this video I cover every aspect of creating server rules in Discord, from making them to formatting them and then even updating them over time. It’s kind of a bunch of knowledge tidbits that I gathered over the many years I’ve been managing my own server on Discord. Whether you’re a server member or a server owner, this guide will help you understand the rules that you have to follow or create!

Chapters:
0:00 – Introduction
0:40 – Explanation of rules
1:17 – How to make rules
2:30 – Common rules to have
3:41 – Presenting rules
4:54 – Punishing
7:33 – Updating rules
8:53 – Outro

Thanks for watching the video!

Note: they both do pretty much the same thing, but in my testing Dyno seems to be the most reliable and feature-rich. You can get both to ensure you have a backup!

  1. One thing I would highly recommend if you want moderation to be fair is that mods shouldnā€™t ban people for rule-breaking directed at them unless itā€™s severe. If it gets bad enough that the person needs to be punished, then they should bring in another mod to handle it. This is to eliminate the biggest source of bias and power abuse which Iā€™ve seen all over the place in discord, and itā€™s a policy I had for myself back when I moderated a (non-discord) community.

Similarly, accusations of power abuse should never alone be grounds for punishment. (I added that one solely because Iā€™m still salty about getting banned from the dank memer server for calling out a modā€™s power abuse because they had a bs rule about questioning the mods or something).
