Great little gun, but this light, short barrel pistol takes some getting used to.

  1. Actually, you don't have to go to the aftermarket to solve the "accidental safety on" problem; Ruger ships a little spacer with every Mk IV 22/45 sold (new, that is; for a used gun you're on your own) that replaces the right-side safety lever, allowing you to scrap the ambi-safety. Takes less than five minutes with 1/16" & 3/32" hex wrenches, and no more bumping the safety on with your right index finger knuckle. (Lefties, y'all are on your own too.)

  2. I have two of them and initially regretted the purchases (rather shoot a basic sr22). They really are blah out of the box. Trigger is embarrassingly bad. Please consider them a platform, not out of the box good. Lack of capacity stinks too. Modify them with a VQ trigger kit and TK trigger shoe.. fit an optic, better TK grips and WOW – cannot even recognize it and how it should have been factory. One of my favorite target toys now! But like I said… if you are hoping for something amazing out of the box and do not have the means to upgrade them, there are a LOT better options on the market.

  3. I have the 22/45 mark III target with blued bull barrel upper receiver and red wood handles. Matches my 1911. I got it as a trainer for the 1911. It's is so accurate and easy to shoot the weight keeps muzzle flip and recoil nearly undetectable. The trigger is awesome I have no desire to get volquartrzen trigger or any upgrades.

  4. Put a Volquartsen trigger kit in it and a Tandemkross steel muzzle brake on it and it is a totally different pistol. The weight at the muzzle really balances out the pistol-it needs to be the steel one not the aluminum oneโ€ฆ

  5. Don't like the bright colored receiver/barrel shroud. Used to be when you saw a handgun sporting a bright colored barrel or frame, it was obviously a toy gun and police/first responders could consider it to be mostly harmless. These days you can buy handguns manufactured in all sorts of bright colors, and cops can't tell if it's real or fake until the trigger is pulled. Seems to make things more dangerous.

  6. MKIV are decent guns, but too expensive to require upgrades otb. I recently paid less for a lnib MKII Competition Target, for nostalgic reasons. It's infinitely better, as is, than any stock MKIV. Anyhow, playing with MKIVs leads to a little place called Volquartsen. Buy once, cry once. Repeat.

  7. I found this gun hard to shoot out of the box as well. The trigger in mine was hot garbage. So I spent some money and upgraded the trigger. Couldn't be happier. It goes to the range EVERY trip. But mine does have a holosun green dot, modified trigger, and a suppressor. One of the most fun guns to shoot that I own. Everyone always gets a kick out of how quiet a 22 can be.

  8. I rented one of these at the range and I was surprised how hard it was to be accurate with. With my friend's Colt Woodsman, I could shoot soda cans at 70 yards. With the 22/45, I was having a hard time hitting the bullseye at 10 yards. I wonder why the difference. Is the extra couple of inches in the barrel really the only factor?

  9. As you stated, very hard to compare the 22/45 Lite to that table of classics. But I love my 22/45 Lite. Installed a Volquartsen trigger, Tandemcross grip and a reflex red dot. Compensating that light weight with a better grip and much better trigger is the ticket. I can literally shoot dime sized steel consistently at 10 yards. The gun itself is quite capable with some shooter friendly enhancements. YMMV

  10. Its one of those that keeps growing on ya. Reliable. Accurate. Handles silencer well. Reshaping the rears of safety levers made a big difference for my paws. The light weight carries easy, target transisions are fast. Fatigue is very low, nice way to cap off a session.

  11. If you haven't already installed it, the Volquartsen trigger will make it a much better gun. I put one on my MKIV Competition and it make it made it much easier to put it on target. Those high standards have crazy light trigger pulls. Great guns but they can be a little fussy.

  12. I have a small arsenal of 22 pistols, but my go to is a 30 year old Buckmark Camper…

I do own, (and enjoy) a 22/45 MKIV (and two MKIIs and an MKIII). That said, I did not care for the "light" version. Bought it thinking it would make a good "woods" gun. It shot OK, just not with me.

Ended up trading it in… probably should have held on to it seeing what they are going for these days.

  13. Off topic just got new glass . I had them put the bifocal line – in line with my pupil . Works great just till my head so little l can see signs – super . Thank again ๐Ÿ˜Š O I'm 67 now moved kinda slow a the gun range .๐Ÿ˜…๐Ÿ˜…๐Ÿ˜…๐Ÿ˜Š I also be a lite blue tint on the top

  14. I have the older S&W 41 I just picked up a Ruger Tactical . The Smith take down is super ez. Right now Smith out shoot Ruger . Got the Smith in 76 lots & lots of rounds . Only time will tell if ruger gets there. Good video. Might cheat and put scope on ruger ๐Ÿ˜… .

  15. yoooo, this is honestly really reliving to find out because i have 5.5 bull barrel mark iv and I SUCK with it, my tx22 compact with even shorter barrel i can do absolutely anything i want within 50 yards but am so awful with the ruger its really confusing i dont get it

  16. I've never cared much for the Ruger 22/45 but love that you got it to get the kids excited about shooting! My Buckmark shoots better than I do, but would sure like that Victor!

  17. The S&W 22 Victory is also easy to disassemble and clean. It is stainless steel, relatively heavy, dependable and accurate. Maybe you could do a comparison with the pistols you have on the table.
