  1. I'm seriously studying your work to learn from. Question: Some youtube sites say emphatically, that Liquin fumes are highly poisonous and carcinogenic. Since you are a wise man and have an open container of Liquin on your palette, you must be breathing in some fumes, help me to understand …. Have you used it many years? How do you stay safe? I only ask because I want to paint along with you to learn from you and I would love to use Liquin to speed my oils drying time.

  2. Thanks for the video!
Its the colours that I watched, hoping that everything didn't get too yellow!
The commentary was a bit difficult for me, but in the end, made sense.
    Nice subject!

  3. Brilliant, I recently picked up my brushes again after a 20 year hiatus and am excited by Dave’s approach to portrait painting. I’ve never tackled portraits and Dave has excited me that much with his approach I’m finding myself getting up at 4 am to enjoy the experience and his videos . Thank You.

  4. This is a great guide as other painters convolute their lessons with different barriers and color ranges, you just dove right into it without “starting with the dark areas” or using only 3 colors for the painting, I hope other artists find this within time as it really helps with showing how easy painting is while hitting all the right marks to get a nice outcome

  5. Dave, I have just found your channel! I’m so happy to see this video. I oil paint in layers and at times a bit frustrated. This is an awesome tutorial. Very helpful and so much inspiration. The detailed description is such an important part when painting a portrait. I love your technique. I will be checking out your Patreon account. Congratulations and I wish you all the best and much more! Happy holidays and blessings for each day ❤❤❤ new subscriber!

  6. I really enjoy your calm style. I started oil painting back in 2016. Set them down for a bit. Today I had a very important commission of a landscape, river, with people I know in a boat. Tiny people faces are not my favorite. Getting the detail to make it look like the correct person in such a small space was quite a challenge. I was looking for new ideas on how to build a skin tone palette to assist, and yours was it. The people are in the boat. God Bless. Subscribed!

  7. Thank you, Dave, for sharing your amazing talent. This was a terrific video. One question: could you please share details about the brushes you used? Do you find any brands to work better for you? Which are hogs hair and which are synthetic? Thanks!

  8. Just came across your channel. Enjoyed very much of your wonderful videos of oil painting. I learn acrylic portrait painting from last year. Never touch any oil painting. Can I follow your steps using acrylic paints? What about signing up your oil painting lessons but learn to do my acrylic painting?

  9. Video just popped up. Very lovely copy. Yes, you made a work of art. We don’t need every detail nor the entire face when we’re learning. You got that right!
