  1. cast reduce on yourself and get inside the chest. exit in the ethereal. go wonder around the deep ethereal until you get hit by a psychic storm and are sent to the astral. now locate the correct color pool and go wherever in the multiverse you want.

  2. I think the best uses are these:

    1) Extreme safe keeping. Magic items/relics that are too sensitive for just a bag of holding. For instance, my party just got the Eye of Vecna, and we’d like to keep it away from us and the rest of the world til we decide what to do with it. Secret Chest is perfect for that.

    2) Bag of Holding storage, as others have said. RAW this won’t cause any Astral Sea gates to be formed from the bags of holding, as they’re being put into a physical storage space, just one that shifts planes.

    3) Getting magic items/sensitive items through checkpoints. Some cities/areas may have rules against carrying weapons/gear, but a small chest replica can be easily hidden, then used to retrieve weapons that have been stored previously.

While it is a bit pricey for a 4th level spell slot, the key word is SECRET. Deceptive uses are the intended uses, not storage

  3. Legacy Spell from the old days; it sadly has been reduced to a very niche spot. That niche would be low magic item campaigns or ones where the dm will just not give out a bag of holding or other such item. If you are in one of those then this spell makes a workable backup, thought the 5050 gp cost really stings. I do not know if it is just me or not but I have yet to be in a 5th ed campaign where the entire party can scrape up more than a few hundred gold collectively let alone a single player.
    All that being said,
    3/10

  4. Devils Advocate: the upside against a BagOfHolding, it can have ~723,684 gp where a BoH can have 25,000 gp max. It can hold BoH or Portable hole, well of many worlds or similar. If DM does not give out magic items like BoH or Portable Hole this is a backup mesns

  5. Even though you are limited to the size of the chest (3x2x2 and a chest is listed as having a capacity of only 300 pounds), you can fit 20 Bag of Holding inside the chest. One BoH weighs 15 pounds but can hold 500 pounds (or 4x4x4 64 cubic feet). That means you can hold 10,000 pounds of stuff. Why would you need 10,000 pounds of stuff? I don't know. But I am a huge Pack Rat in game.
I just can't leave stuff behind. That merchant scale? Yep lets take it. Maybe I will have a use for it.
That Block and Tackle? Who knows if I need to move something REALLY, REALLY, heavy in the future.
Or that could be 500,000 coins, because each coin whether platinum or the lowly copper is 50 coins to equal a pound.

  6. Here is a thought (requires buy-in form the DM like most weird uses), Have a Wizard run item shop that sells mundane and/or magical items. One of the players takes this spell and have both the wizard plus the player connect to the chest that gets shunted. Now you have long distant delivery system of stuff. Yes that is more a DM use but there is some wiggle room with the RIA of the spell.

  7. you can just shunt someone to the ethereal plane, if you cast reduce on them they should fit in there, very expensive way and they should be unconcious, but you can shunt them away

  8. something super neat about these videos is that there are enough that we can look them up if we need to! i have a player who’s going to be contacting other plane, and your video helped me figure out a lot about the situation. very cool for the larger community
