  1. so ends the heartbreak episode: billy loses becca. hughie loses annie. homelander loses homelander.

as for billy's bottomless rage, all will be revealed. he learned very early to solve his problems by curb-stomping them.

  2. Also worth considering that not all children are the result of traditional sex, as in sperm into egg via a man and a woman having physical sex with each other. So like, usually a mother can know if they have a child, via pregnancy, but not always. The more you involve science, newer technology, etc the more "unusual" you can get, especially when you factor in, massive multi billion dollar corporations working outside the confines of the law. Am just being general, and not specific to any of your speculations.

Also yeah, Stormfront hits pretty hard for some, because of certain real world contexts. Consider how old Stormfront is, if she was Liberty back then? Now consider how social media savvy she is? In many ways, its unusual. After all, how many 80 year olds do you know, are meme lords and hitting up the same apps as teens and twenty somethings. Except… Stormfront is all about adapting, updating, and manipulating people. Which she is very good at. She tricked a lot of people into thinking she was a progressive feminist, with her lines about Pippi Longstockings and biting the dicks off sexual predators… Except, with more consideration and inspection, she is way more off a pick me girl. Generally, its not in good taste to go around telling people who experienced sexual assault "they should have just fought back" like thats always easy or realistic. Especially when you later learn, she would victimise and assault minorities, humans, with her as a Supe. Sometimes there are power imbalances that just can't be ignored or overlooked.

She's not just racist, she is clever and subtle about her racism when cameras and the crowd are looking at her. She is rallying the troops, she is fighting the establishment and "Big" anything. Then off camera, and behind closed doors, she is blatantly racist, and for the establishment, with herself at the top. Given, her racism, you guys ever wonder why Homelander seems so attractive to her?

  3. The best actors from this show are Homelander and Butcher, and it's funny bc they are exact rivals. Butcher is the leader of the boys who wants to kill Homelander, and he is the leader of the Seven. These two elevates the show to what it currently is, and it's well deserved. I can't imagine anyone else playing Homelander as perfect as Anthony Starr, the same for Karl Urban (Butcher). 100/10

  4. Regarding Homelander and lies… I would say its more complicated than that. You know the scene with Maeve. Like, don't forget, this is literally the same episode, where earlier, Homelander was getting Doppelganger, to pretend to be Madelyn Stillwell and tell him all sorts of comforting, warm, compliments and validation. Many of which were lies, or white lies. So like many people, sometimes they are totally fine with lies and deception, in some situations… but not okay with them in other situations… all depending on how their emotions and ego are, in any given situation.

This is why Homelander can be so terrifying and scary. Its not just that he has all that power, but he can be very unpredictable in many ways, because one day, he might want you to be fake, and superficial and complimentary, and appease his ego, but the next, he might have a mood swing or ego swing or just snap, and think you are trying to manipulate him, with falseness, and he wants the truth, and demands it. If you can't accurately predict his mood, you may not be able to switch to match. This is also why Stillwell was so relatively good at controlling him, because she would transform herself to accommodate his moodiness, ego, emotions etc Well until she lose control, slipped up, and paid the price.

Its also a bit like people who claim they want the truth from others, but everything about their behaviour, tells people that they are the last types of people that deserve, or can handle the truth. So people respond to that instead. Think of people with power who ego or power trip. or parents that punish children very harshly. You may value the truth, but you also teach, or specifically condition others to fear being truthful to you. Its really good writing.

Anyway, this is one of my favourite episodes across the entire series. For a few reasons. I love all the flawed characters, but seeing MM and Annie, two of the more overtly wholesome, sweet, caring, types, get to be friendly/friends is great. Thats a great dynamic, especially seeing Annie notice small interesting details about MM, that have been there already, as far as his OCD.

The Stormfront/Liberty drop was huge. Even though Stormfront being a racist wasn't news to me, as a comic reader, and also being familiar with the website from back in the day (don't worry, I was familiar because I am anti that sort of thing), a lot more is being done with this character in the show, thats smarter and more topical than the comic version. There are so many parallels, and allusions being drawn to certain real world politics…

Episode was also heart breaking for the Butcher and Becca development. You know, some people out there still believed that Becca and Homelander was consensual, and she was attracted to the power and fame, and just cheated on Butcher? Thats why she avoided telling him? Not realising that there are so many many reasons behind her decisions and actions. I think she loves Butcher about as much as someone can, but the thing is, like she says here, she knows him better than anyone. Butcher is the kind of guy, that depending on when and how you tell him… he would walk right up to Homelander and try to kill him out of revenge, and then end up dead. That Mallory ended up telling him, much later, after he had time to cool down, is probably the only reason he had cooled down a bit to actually go with more strategy and a plan. That almost actually got him killed anyway. Its also an example, of how we can end up with ideals, that are counter productive to what we want. If Butcher was just a little more grey, in his views of superheroes. Could see the difference between someone like Starlight and Homelander, and not think all Supes are the same… That softer stance, could have opened him up more sincerely to the possibility of looking after Ryan, and therefore Becca being able to fully commit to running away with him, with no reservations. Except Ryan is important to her, and she can't just abandon him. Its tragic, because Butchers one dimensional hatred, whilst not necessarily healthy for him, is very natural and relatable, given the trauma and pain he has been in. He's also not really the type to seek therapy, and TBH, even with the best quality therapy, that sort of thing is hard to process and heal from.

Then the symbolism of Homelander killing himself. This episode had a lot in it, and a lot of it, was top tier.

  5. Omg you have no idea how much fun watching this is with you two honestly. Anna is at the edge of her seat the entire time and Ben is trying to keep it cool but you can see he's just the same as Anna 😂😂.
