@EoinReardon – You mentioned having lots of mice, so you might like to look into Shawn Woods' Mousetrap Monday channel. He reviews all kinds of live and kíĺĺ traps, and even invented one recently.
I've found the channel very helpful, myself. You can DIY a pretty good rolling log style trap out of a wire hanger, a piece of pipe, and a bucket. (A bigger one on a trash can would be better if you have rats.)
The shipping might be prohibitive and it'd be a little bit more work to DIY, but his new Dizzy Dunker is close to 100% effective.
(He generally releases live native mice far from buildings and puts invasive dead ones out for wildlife to snack on.)
