Self hosting, especially in an MSP context can definitely be a double edged sword. You're now responsible for keeping power and Internet up 24/7 plus updates, backups, and having a "plan b" for hardware failures could easily become a full time job.

My 100 megabit was an example of data moving through the network. I really am convinced that the majority of homes have one gigabit which is what I'm trying to say is plenty. The reality of data moving over the network is likely to be less than 100 megabit in most cases. That's a small amount on a 1 GB switch. It's the dads that are requiring the 2.5 not the family. I have dual one gigabit coming off my NAS and off my servers but that doesn't make me change to 2.5. I truly believe one gigabit is plenty for the dads too. Think about it and I ran enterprises for over 40 years but token rings and later 1 gigabit networks are phenomenal.
