  1. i would say – use a simple sata adapter card in lieu of hw raid – you can't move hw raid – you can easily move sw raid, also this shows why dual nas is really more of a necessity than a luxury and with 40g thrown into the mix (dual port cards are 50 bucks but get the 56g cards to do 40g ethernet over cat8 and transceivers) you can move data very quickly plus sync fast – no switch needed. hopefully you can get the mobo issues sorted – you really want/need that 16x slot but I would say get rid of hw raid and goto 40g instead – sw raid is just as fast basically and if you so some small arrays they match up well to 40g throughput – 10g you get 600-800mb/s, 40g you get 2gb+/s and it helps move all the video, vms, and backups around which can all add up – please followup on this thread but try to do it cheap – i have had luck with the sata adapters x4 4 port but as we all know you do have to shop around and the troubleshooting/debugging just goes with the territory – not many people take full advantage but going the extra mile is definitely worth it once you get everything running rite

  2. I've heard sometimes that installing m.2 cards on the motherboard directly can disable the second x16 on some older motherboards. Not sure exactly how you are configured and what your hardware is though.
