Guys do not do ActiveDirectory!!! Google: Azure AD. 😂
So your payroll is $500k per month? Yikes!
Why doesn’t LTT buy a flash SAN from Dell or somebody?! This stuff is already done and dusted tried and true tech? Am I missing something?
$480,000 in monthly payroll is insane
this is a very cool server, but what is it for? what problem did the computer fail to solve, that you needed a server?
The one thing I really take away from this one: "New-new-new-new-new-new-new-new-new-Whonnock goes REAL BRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR!"
The amount of knowledge and expertise involved in these projects exceeds my level of computing soooo far at this point^^ Still fun to watch!
Vote for turnip
I love how modular professional gear is. U can hot swap video crads on alot of production equipment if u need more ports of HDMI or SDI u dont usually switch them out but its cool you can if needed
High Availability Whonnock Knodes = HAWK
guyz the opening is back
As a senior data center engineer in a multi billion dollar enterprise I really enjoy such content (with a bit of envy), while we still have to deal with the old school netapp metro clusters, HPE XP8 or IBMs SAN volume controllers you guys can play with the innovative stuff, even if its totally overkill for your usecase.
tha ai thingy is pretty neat
Can it realy be "Linus Prof" if Linus has access to the building it is in?
challenge accepted executes a zero write
thats what they said about the titanic XD
jake lost weight, nice. Also u aint fooling me… y'all loosing data next month cuz linus did smth
My mind was blown by the storage/infrastructure itself… then they started talking about that INSANE search ability, and I can't even. It's SO FREAKIN' COOL.
Lunis "math hard"
For personal usage I just got NAS with raid drives, and hope if something happens it will not kill all drives at once. Downtime is not a dealbreaker for personal usage, can have some of it. BTW I have backup on different drive in another computer.
This "split brain" is actually really fascinating stuff. It works brilliantly for crypto and for a solution to the Byzantine Generals logic problem (solution being used lightly, it's technically impossible). My uncle mentioned something very similar to this, where if 2/3 +1 computer in the mining system agrees on a package, it will ignore the other "corrupt" computers. This can be used for extreme redundancy and an avoidance system for cyber attacks on the network.
NOTE: Forgive my inability to be a nerd about this, my uncle explained this to me ONCE and I'm trying to recall everything he told me. Crypto is an incredibly complex system. While he's highly successful and is a very smart man capable of accurately explaining things, I must admit some of it went over my head, and this was almost eight months ago.
okay, but what type of "whale" enthusiast is Shawn… are we talking Shammoo of Linus :p
Now this is a write off. (Business expense.)
build quality of those servers is sub par imho, why not a set of 2 servers with 36 NVMe drives 😉 with KIOXIA gen5 drives? and doesnt weka have a 4 to 1 read to performance ratio?
This is a bromance if I have ever seen one.
Can not or must not?
This setup is so cool, great stuff.
can you game on it, though?
I wish I could get Supermicro to send me free servers…unfortunately I can't even get them to respond to a simple support request that I submitted for our brand new server that we bought at work 😠
Adobe Premiere crashes when file access latency is to high?
Sounds like a pretty crappy software to me…
Never give linus a database admin job, he will drop all the tables.
1:58, love the reference to "linux isos"
Great video. Bleeding edge software stack with Weka and the video AI stuff. Amazing.
this is absurd that it feels out of touch
I think WekaFS is like 385 usd per year per terabyte
In short time, I think, it could be just coronal mass ejection of our Sun straight on Earth… no data will survive.
Each one of those servers doesn't have a redundancy power supply. The plane might have redundancy.
Creazy setup. Many much bigger companies can just dream about something like whonic 10
