I was playing around with Horizon Instant Clones and was a bit impatient when removing a pool. I tried to clean up the mess I created but now I have two orphaned “cp-parent” VMs in the “ClonePrepParentVmFolder” in vCenter.
Unfortunately I cannot remove them from inventory. If I do I get a “vim.fault.InvalidState” message. vCenter is also still trying to delete those VMs once per minute but fails with a status of “The operation is not allowed in the current state”.
How do I get rid of those orphans? Any help is much appreciated!
Edit2: SOLVED – I was able to solve the issue by removing the host with the orphaned machines from the cluster. Yet I would suggest this as sort of a last resort. If anyone is encountering this issue have a look at the comments below and try this first…
– Run “viewdbchk” from a Horizon Connection Server: https://kb.vmware.com/s/article/2118050
– Use the instant clone maintenance tools: https://docs.vmware.com/en/VMware-Horizon-7/7.9/horizon-virtual-desktops/GUID-6025D684-2E05-4857-9C24-18F16DDC38FD.html
– Here is something else to try (didn’t work for me though), be careful here: https://www.vblog.nl/remove-locked-instant-clone-objects-in-vmware-horizon-daas/
Thank you everyone for your help! ?
